Why Lake Cowichan Inspired Me to Build a Studio for Local Businesses
When I moved to Lake Cowichan, I expected the scenery to be beautiful — the quiet mornings, the mountains, the way the lake turns silver when the light hits it just right. What I didn’t expect was how many small, creative, hardworking businesses were tucked into this little town. Shops run by families, tradespeople who truly care about their work, service businesses built on reputation, and passionate owners who pour everything into what they do.
It didn’t take long before I realized something: this community is full of incredible businesses that deserve to be seen — not just locally, but online.
After more than twenty years in IT and years of building websites, I’ve seen firsthand how much a clear, intentional online presence can change a business. Not by making it bigger or flashier, but by helping it show up confidently and attract the people it’s meant to reach. And as I settled into Lake Cowichan, it became obvious that so many of these businesses have everything they need except visibility.
That’s where Still Lake Studio comes in.
There’s something unique about building websites and digital systems for a community like this. It’s not about flashy trends or complicated funnels. It’s about clarity, trust, and telling the real story behind a business — the craftsmanship, the service, the heart, the grit. The things people appreciate when they walk into a local shop or call someone for help.
Lake Cowichan has businesses that deserve websites that reflect their work, their values, and their personality — not generic pages that get lost online. From the cabins and guest stays, to the wellness providers, to the trades, to the artists and creators, everyone here has something meaningful to offer. They just need a place to showcase it.
What I’ve learned since moving here is that a strong online presence isn’t about being “big.” It’s about being discoverable.
Being understood.
Being chosen.
Being remembered.
And when businesses in a small town show up clearly online, it strengthens the whole community — more visitors, more customers, more awareness, and more opportunities for growth.
Starting Still Lake Studio wasn’t a business decision. It was a response to what I saw around me. A community full of talent and hard work, ready to be recognized beyond word of mouth. My goal is simple: to help local businesses look good online, feel confident in their digital presence, and grow in a way that supports the life they’re building here.
What Lake Cowichan gave me was a fresh start, a slower pace, and a sense of belonging. What I want to give back is clarity, support, and websites that reflect the best of what this town has to offer.
If you’re a local business looking to improve how you show up online — whether you need a full website, a refresh, or simple support — I’d love to help you grow right here with the community we both call home.
